Privacy at a Glance

Miint is built on a simple principle: your financial data belongs to you.

  • Transactions: Auto-deleted — we don't keep your history
  • AI Queries: Your questions aren't logged — we track usage, not content
  • Data Sales: Never. Our revenue comes from subscriptions.
  • Your Rights: Export or delete your data anytime

The detailed policy below explains how we handle your data. But the short version? We keep as little as possible, for as short as possible.

1. Introduction

Miint ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our financial management platform and related services.

By using Miint, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

  • Email address and name (via our authentication providers)
  • Organisation details you provide
  • Account preferences and settings

2.2 Financial Data

  • Financial data you provide
  • Category mappings and classifications
  • VAT records and calculations
  • Financial reports you generate
  • VAT return data submitted to HMRC on your behalf via Making Tax Digital

2.3 Digital Asset Data

  • Public blockchain data you choose to view
  • We do not have access to your private keys or wallet credentials

2.4 Guidance Queries

  • Questions you submit to our guidance features
  • Query metadata (timestamps, response times)
  • These queries may be processed by third-party AI providers (see Section 5)

2.5 Technical Data

  • IP address and browser type
  • Device information (screen resolution, timezone, window size)
  • Usage patterns and feature interactions
  • A persistent device identifier stored in your browser

When you use our HMRC Making Tax Digital features, we collect and transmit fraud prevention headers to HMRC as required by law. These include your IP address, device identifier, browser user agent, screen dimensions, timezone, and window size. This data is sent directly to HMRC with each API request and is not stored by us beyond the duration of the request.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain our services
  • To process and organise your financial transactions
  • To generate reports, insights, and tax calculations
  • To submit VAT returns to HMRC on your behalf via Making Tax Digital
  • To provide AI-powered tax guidance (using third-party AI services)
  • To improve our services and develop new features
  • To communicate with you about your account
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • To comply with legal obligations

4. Data Storage and Security

All data is stored in the United Kingdom. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, and regular security assessments.

5. Third-Party Services

We use third-party service providers for infrastructure, authentication, data storage, AI processing, and blockchain data retrieval. Each provider is selected for their security practices and compliance standards. By using our services, you acknowledge that certain data may be processed by these providers in accordance with their respective privacy policies.

6. Data Retention

We minimise data storage. Specifically:

  • Account data: Email address retained for account access and communications
  • Financial transactions: We minimise retention periods and automatically remove older data
  • Category mappings: Retained to improve your experience (not personal data)
  • Guidance queries: Only stored if you choose to save them
  • Digital asset data: Cached temporarily, not permanently stored

We minimise retention periods for your financial data. You can delete your data at any time from within the app. Your account settings and preferences are retained for as long as your account is active.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only in these circumstances:

  • With third-party service providers (as listed in Section 5) to operate our platform
  • With HMRC, when you use our Making Tax Digital features to submit VAT returns or retrieve your VAT obligations — including fraud prevention headers as required by HMRC regulations
  • Within your organisation, with members you have granted access
  • When required by law or to protect our legal rights
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice)

8. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Portability: Receive your data in a portable format
  • Restriction: Limit how we process your data
  • Objection: Object to certain types of processing
  • Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent
